A river runs through it. The Savoyard River has long been hidden from view as the city of Detroit grew from a key French fur trading post to a large, dynamic metropolis. Starting East of downtown in the area of Lafayette Park, it runs parallel to the Detroit River roughly beneath Larned and Congress streets before it turns and empties into the Detroit River near Fourth Street.
